Under Construction!

I am working on bringing my website over to Blogger so things may be a little wonky for a while. I was able to export my posts but many of the images are broken so I am replacing them when I have time.

You can still find me on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/enchantedwhimsies and follow "ewhims" on Twitter. The website will still be up for a while but soon the URL will point here.

I think this Blogger format looks decent, how do you like it?

Hobbit Feet

My son wanted to be Frodo for Halloween and needed to wear his costume to school to do a tie-in book report presentation on The Fellowship of the Ring. I wanted to make sure he could walk in his Hobbit Feet and they weren't terrible tripping hazards. Here is what I came up with for Hobbit Feet: The Hobbit Sneaker Smiley What do you think of my crazy creation? I originally posted about it here on Craftster

Here is what I started with. They are are called Funny Slipper Feet and I got them online then cut them up, painted them, attached to Van-style slip on sneakers & wigged them.

You can buy them here:

Here are some Work-In-Progress and action shots...They are looking very creepy about now!

The Zip Ties/Cable Ties are holding things together while the glue dries. I'll post more supply links at the end off this post.

I used craft paint to bring out the details. A little clear acryic gloss on the nails too. I'll post links for the supplies at the bottom of the post.

I had to use some finesse to get the edges of the vinyl foot to meet the canvas sneaker. A few stitches here and there, the Cable Ties and LOTS of glue!

i used a combination of sewing and glueing but it's mainly glue. I did a few stitches here and there for reinforment. i used Fabri-tac glue (I'll post links below). My son wore them all day at school (until kickball lol) they held up great.  I love Fabri-tac and use it alot in my fairy making so i had faith in it's ability to work on this project. He also wore them trick-or-treating all around town and they held up great. These got SO many comments and lots of attention anywhere he went!

I used a good quality doll hair that I happened to have but you could use craft doll hair ot hair from an old wig (try Goodwill), old doll hair, barbie hair, fur from a stuffed animal maybe - be creative!

WIP Madness!

I have been too busy to post but that's a good thing. My worktable has so many WIPs it looks kind of crazy!

Death from Neil Gaiman's The Sandman comic books is very close to done. I will post a newer
photo of her. The little pixie in front will get her wings soon and fly off to eBay but I really want
to make Snape my priority and finish him up. You can see if he is still undressed.

The other WIPs are a very little Rapunzel that I will submit to Contermporary Doll Collector Magazine for the Fairy Tale round-up if I finish her in time, an Alice and White Queen and the Emcee from Cabaret as a Marionette. That should be a fun challenge, I've never made a marionette and LOVE Alan Cumming's Emcee. I've wanted to create a doll version for a while and I think it will be a natural as a marionette. That's for an Art Dolls Only quarterly challenge. Hopefully I can organize my time and meet the deadlines! Also, I am going to turn my attention to making Ball Jointed Doll making. So, lots of fun stuff in the works! :D

Steampunk Mermaid WIP

I've been posting a few pix and updates on Facebook of this little Steampunk Mermaid I am working on. I think she is really pretty cool. This was going to be a quickie little warm-up since I've been away from the clay for so long but it has taken on a life of i's own and become a bigger project. I am excited to be almost finihed with her. Check out the WIP pix on Facebook. I am also making some progress on Snape and will post more pix of him soon.

At this stage her head is not attached and actually I am not 100% sure if she will keep that head. I am checking the tail for size, do you think it's too big? It's not quite done but I think I like it!

So much time, so little to do.

Scratch that, reverse...

It's been a while. I have been so busy working with no time for sculpting and fairies and dollmaking. Now, I think I am about to have some extra time and I feel like I want to do everything all at once to make up for lost time.

I have sketches I was eager to sculpt, unfinished pieces to complete, new ideas I can't wait to try. Where to start?? I may revisit the unfinished work, pieces I loved and was commited to but had to be packed away for The Move. I am definitely inspired to start new work but I hate to leave those in limbo.

Maybe I will change my mind when I get everything set up, we'll see. For now I am excited as I organize my skethes and reference materials.

New Fairy WIP

I finished sculpting a new fairy. I think I have captured the serene, peace and beauty I was hoping to achieve in this sculpture. You can see more of her work-in-progess photos in this Flickr set for now. I will be taking more photos and adding her to the gallery soon. I just added her to the gallery :) She will be available on ebay later this week.

New Steampunk Fairy on ebay now

I finally got my new fairy done, she was ALOT of work! I still need to take more photos but there are a few in the gallery and more on Flickr. She is available and may be on ebay next week. I will post links if I list her. This fairy would be 8" if she was standing. The whole piece with the mushroom base and wings is just under 13". The mushroom base is built around 3 vintage vacuum tubes and has vintage watch parts and gears. ***UPDATE: Steampunk Fairy now on ebay until oct 25

Works ARE in progress (really!)

I was very inspired last night to make a very different little fairy. She's a little less, well...living and has a taste for brains ;) She will be done in time for Halloween.

With the new Drew Barrymore/Ellen Page movie "Whip It" in theaters I thought this would be a good time to finish up the Roller Derby Fairy WIP I have on the workbench.  She should be done by the end of the week.

I am also working on new Steampunk Fairy with a cool base. The base is coming along, the fairy is only an armature right now.  I will post some photos later in the week.

*UPDATE* Here's a sneak peak at Steampunk Fairy. Her Mecha Mushroom base is almost finished and she has a long way to go still!!

I'm back!

After a nice summer break I had a rude awakening when I woke up Monday morning and found my website hacked. Hacked even. *sigh* So, as much as I would have preferred to get back to the Fairy Lab and start sculptin' I am instead lost in the interwebs trying to put together a new site. Quick.

I will probably go live before the site is truly ready, I apologize for any weirdess that may present itself as I get the kinks worked out here. I am trying to look at the positive and use this as a chance to redesign but unfortunately alot of people may have broken links pointing to my old site.
